Letter To Mr. Youcheff
Mrs. Hartman has been a teacher for a little bit. In the past, students did this time called Book Giving Day. They often just donated to different places. We came up with this big idea that is still going on. We had to brainstorm ideas of what we were going to do.
Well, first we found out about International Book Giving Day. We found out about a Little Free Library, but we had one problem, we needed books! So we voted and decided to hold a book drive. But yet again we had a problem, we needed permission! So we worked on persuasive writing and wrote a letter to Mr. Youcheff. One day he told Mrs. Hartman he could come in and talk to us. So he came in and asked us questions about why we wanted to hold our book drive. Surprisingly after the "meeting" he said we could hold our book drive and make our Little Free Library! We also had to put together committees to decide who was doing what.

Sharing With Others
Mya, Caitlyn and Emily went to classes around the school. They saw a bunch of different classrooms. Madisyn, Zak, Zane and Hunter went on the morning announcements! We got to talk about when the books will be collected. We also talked about how many books we got for our total. Kids from both classes got to make posters for the school. We had over 15 posters. When they were all finished, they looked really good! We all did really well in this committee and we all worked well together!!!

Collecting Books
Our group was collecting book boxes in teachers' classrooms that had their book boxes full with books. When we went around the school we had to have a cart with us. We never thought we could get that many books in that little time. We would get this many books to fit into the cart we had and not get another one. Good thing we had the big cart. That’s how we collected the books. We collected a whole bunch of books.

Sorting Books
Our class collected a lot of books from our school book drive. So of course we had to sort them. First we sorted the books by genre but it didn’t work because, there were too many genres and all the books got mixed up! Then we sorted the books by size and I bet you could guess what happened (IT DIDN’T WORK!!!). Because we couldn't decide what size was which! So then we sorted chapter books & picture books. But there were so many! So we kept the books sorted in chapter & picture books but we also sorted the books by age. That's how we sorted the books.
Counting Books
When we found out that our Grand Total was 2,807 books, we were so surprised!!! We thought we would get like one thousand books or something but, we got a lot more than what we thought it would be. It takes up a lot of our space in the classroom!!! When we were starting to count the books every kid in our class was helping to count the books. We have lots of stacks of books around our classroom. We have kid's books, baby books and adult's books too. We are thankful for all the books we have. We are all surprised we have many books from our book drive.
