Mrs. Hartman and I went to the Bell Socialization Shelter on East Market Street one night to drop off our donation of books. When I went we got all the books in and put them down. All the girls came and got books. Mrs. Centeno read a book to a little boy. I read a book to three little girls. One of the young toddler girls was throwing books at us to play with them. We started to put them in the bookshelf and then the bookshelf got full so we had to put the rest of the books on another bookshelf there. That was the visit to the Bell Socialization Shelter. The Lehman Center is a place that helps kids that need a break from their parents. The kids think the break is vacation from their mom and dad. It is a place where kids 6 and under can go. The Lehman Center gives kids three meals a day, a place to play with toys and books. The Lehman Center gives kids a chance to interact with more kids so it can be better for themselves.
The Lehman Center needs volunteers 14 and up. There are a lot of things for kids to do it must be fun. When they came to collect the books they told us all about what they do and where they are located on West Market Street in York, PA. That's what we learned about The Lehman Center. By: Dakoda, Brittany, and Jade The news reporter came and interviewed some of the people in our class. The interview was about our Little Free Library. She was asking us “What’s your favorite part of the Little Free Library?” Also “what's your favorite book?” But there were other questions. We had to type the questions and answer we had to listen to everything.
I personally thought it was pretty fun listening and we got to skip class for a little. At the end she took a picture of us to put on the newspaper. We got to see our interviews in the newspaper! By Ellaina & Myla In an earlier blog post you heard about Mrs. Long, owner of a Little Free Library. March 19, 2015 Mrs. Hartman went to Mrs. Long's Library. Look how empty it was! Since we have 1,972 books we donated kids books to the Library. There were only 2 kids books and the rest were adult books. Mrs. Hartman bought a classical guitar book because Mrs. Long plays classical guitar. Mrs. Hartman also left her a note in the book. The donations committee picked out 29 books to donate to Mrs. Long's Library. I hope she likes all the books. Mrs. Hartman put them in on a Friday night and in the morning some were gone! Wow! Our class seen a poster that said "International Book Giving Day.'' We printed the poster and then a couple days later we wrote a letter to Mr. Youcheff, our principal. On February 18, 2014 Mr. Youcheff came into our classroom to talk about our project for International Book Giving Day. We thought that it was important for children to get books, so we decided to make a NH Little Free Library (LFL), community LFL, create a book drive & donate some of our books to hospitals, dentists' offices, etc. Mr. Youcheff loved our ideas. He questioned us but we had the correct answers. Then it came to the final answer, Does he want to say yes or no? Luckily that day Mr. Youcheff said, ''Yes! I love your ideas and I agree!'' So we started planning!
